Music is an art of expressing ideas and emotions in significant sound forms by using the elements of rhythm, melody and harmony through voices, instruments or both. Music plays a great role in everyone’s life.

Music plays an integral part and in our life. There are various types of music which we can enjoy according to our needs and requirements. Many of us are used to listen music during the study time, playing indoor or outdoor games, and at leisure time.

Listening soothing music gives us relief,  peace and makes us healthy mentally and spiritually. It helps us to come out from the mental stress and emotional disturbances in day to day life.

Mere instrumental music is also equally powerful like vocal, which has an ability to create positive energy in all kinds of emotions without telling and asking anything to anyone.Though it is voiceless,it works as an medicine in stressful situation.

Indian music is built on Ragas. Each raga has its own character, mood, colour and has  power to build up an atmosphere to the time of day or night, season or occasion.

Listening the music built scientifically basing on ragas have been proved very much fruitful not only to human beings but also for animals such as pets and cows.

The ragas developed by the ancestors are based on the time. Following are some of the examples of the same.

  • Bhairav: All categories of this raga are rendered during very early hours in the morning. They deliver the excellent approach of the dawn giving the dancing rays of golden sun with vast panorama of beautiful nature and convey mood of quiet dignity.
  • Todi, Aasawari, Lalat, Bairagi, Pahadi, Bilawal: These are the other examples of morning ragas which deliver pathos and introspection.
  • Some of the day time ragas are Janupuri, Sarang which pentatonic in character.
  • Early evening twilight time ragas Puriya Dhanashri, Bhoop, Multani, Abhogi, Des, Marwa, Shree, Kalavati, Hameer etc. deliver tender flavors which give visualization of moon rise and have mood of exhilaration and vivacity.
  • There are plenty of night time ragas which are profound, colourful and of sparkle nature. Following are the few of them:
    • Jai-Jaiwanti, Mishra-piloo are rendered towards mid-night and has romantic mood.
    • Bahar, Nand ragas possess an appeal of tenderness and gaiety.
    • Hansadhwani, Jog possess pentatonic for dramatic and challenging approach.
    • Malkauns, Darabari are famous mid-night melodies having vivacious character.
    • Shivranjani: Early-night raga which evokes feeling of separation and sorrow.
    •  Mishra Kafi: Carries celebration of Holi Festival approach.
    • Jhinjhoti: This has devotional and peaceful mood suitable for meditation.
    • Bihag: This is rendered during first part of night and has sublime mood.
    • Basant: This raga is suitable in last quarter of night expresses tender mood.
    • Kalyan is the raga for second quarter of night and suggests mood of sad grace.
    • Shankara is also for second quarter of night and has serious nature.
    • Bageshree: This is early night raga and presents serene mood.
    • Durga: Denotes an emotion of dignity.
    • Sohni: This is rendered in middle part of night and has a mood of urge.
    • Yaman: This has Bhakti and Shringar ‘ras’ and rendered in first quarter of night.

In nutshell, Music has an inspiring and promoting nature which increases the concentration power of the human being by removing all the negative thoughts. It also helps in re-memorozing our past spent with our near & dear ones.  It has no drawbacks and the only thing required by everyone is to start listening or playing the music passionately with full devotion.
